the_measurersAaaand this mission is officially ICly over. While we are still playing out the mission logs themselves, feel free to start logs/channel posts set during or after now. Currently everyone's returned to orbit but are still in the same system.
Results:
-Some edible plants have been brought back, along with a staggering quantity of meats and hides, courtesy of Miel and his Eremians. Sheeana and Luke also brought back a rabbuck.
-The station has gained a pet! It's the old hermit's predator rat. He's shy but a nicedog rat. His name is Cipro. He is not housetrained. Feel free to use him for whatever logging you want to do.
-The hermit has elected to stay on the planet. Those who can read between the lines will realize he's dying.
-A portable communicator's been sent down to him. If anyone wants to say anything to him,like that the remains of his boyfriend are floating in orbit, now's the time.
-A data crystal's been recovered from the wreck but it will take some weeks to decode.

Feel free to jump in anywhere, anytime. All threads are considered open. You can also discuss this mission/plot on this post if you wish.
Tess Lee will be teleporting around the planet, and that gives us a unique opportunity. The old hermit knows of no other sentient beings on that version of Earth, but he's only seen a small part of it. Would you like Tess to encounter a hermit from your own canon? The standard canon NPC rules apply here: you may encounter an NPC (via Tess), but they may not be a character who is named in canon. An example of this would be, for instance, encountering a Jedi in hiding.
If you'd like that to happen, please reply here. We reserve the right to reject your proposal but probably won't have to.

Eventually we'll probably have a mission to the multiversal equivalent of a scifi/fantasy/anime con. Exciting times.
For this month's main event, please let us know what you think of the following:
1: The crew has to deal with the landing of a spaceship containing members of the SPAAAAAACE equivalent to the Westboro Baptist Church. They must decide whether having their network of crazy fundamentalists as allies is worth them sticking around the station and being jerks to everyone who's in the least bit nonstandard.
2: A mission to a rather idyllic and charming planet to gather supplies. The only inhabitant is a crazy but welcoming hermit with a secret. This would be a rather laid back mission for the characters to unwind after the stress of the Santassasination plot.
3: [Your suggestion goes here]
For those of you who were interested in the do-we-torture-a-captive-Fay'lia idea, we haven't forgotten you and are thinking of ways to add that into a future mission.

Item 1: HOLIDAY MINIPLOT
Here's my idea for the holiday miniplot. If anyone else has an idea for what we should do, put it down here too.
The crew will land on a loyalist planet. Here, the annual christmas visitations by volunteer santas (in their hoversleighs pulled by teams of magical lungfishes) is used as a cover by the loyalist government to go into the homes of dissidents and assasinate them.
The local resistance cell hasn't been idle though. They've obtained a list of the santas that are going to the houses of high ranking officials. The crew will use this information to replace the santas on those routes and assasinate those officials in their sleep.
For those of a less violent bent, they will also be holding a public "early christmas" distraction event, with toys being given away to children.Goa'ulds, this means you.
One assasin will be needed to get on the broadcasting setup found in their target's house and publicly declare christmas over until it's no longer being used as a cover for skeezy political practices. Someone can have that role if they want, or I can have Sheeana do it.
Item 2: EQUIVALENT EXCHANGE (warning: contains tvtropes)
I'm thinking of changing our rules regarding powers. Instead of damping powers outright, powers would remain the same, but would require some form of 'fuel', increasing in quantity with the power. Characters who formerly used their powers without paying some kind of price (via No Conservation Of Energy) might find themselves:
-Eating a lot more
-Exhausted after using their powers
-Needing some kind of external fuel source
Gimme thoughts on this brainfart.

1: Casting for the propaganda magical girl show is almost done and we'll ICly be moving into preproduction. If you want a major role or to help out behind the scenes, let us know ASAP.
2: Activity check will be coming up very soon. There's a couple characters who will be on the chopping block for it. The activity requirements are still tagging/posting in at least one log or making one channel post per month.
3: Batting around the idea of a holiday event. Being who we are, we probably won't tell the typical feel-good kind of holiday story, although there will be moments of fluff certainly. We'd love to hear your suggestions.

If you were attached to another one of the plots on offer, fear not. They'll all be coming up again next time, including Ten's idea.
For each plot we will need the following types of characters (in addition to people who are just generally willing to help out/hinder in whatever way):
7: Actors, voice actors, CGI models for the fight scenes, people with experience running a project, producers, etc. Also if you have ideas for what either show should include, tell us here. Muns who can draw scenes from either show would be great too.
6: Everyone, to share their opinions on the matter. People with experience in it if they do end up torturing them. People who can write good PR copy.
4: Engineers/fixer uppers
Remember, we do need your input. Even if it's to say "I don't really have a preference", anything you tell us is helpful.

Oct. 19th, 2010 01:21 amthe_measurersAlright a few weeks have passed since the Bhor/Planck stop ended, and it's about time to decide on the next event/stop/whatever.
A couple ideas that we've been batting around the past couple days:
1: Crew lands on a planet that's mostly walled off city-states due to zombies outside on the largest continent. Turns out the zombies are actually representations of the rage of a slaughtered population. The highlight of the city's entertainment is an endurance footrace across the zombie country, armed only with a foam bat. Some of the characters go on the footrace. The ones who stayed in the city have to convince the populace to reconcile with their past and make some kind of gesture of apology to placate the dead. Could be a fun deconstruction but also could get way crass if we handled it wrong
2: Another zombie idea, characters arrive in the midst of a zombie apocalypse and take on refugees from the planet. Then the Fay'lia arrive suddenly too, solve the zombie problem almost immediately and then the crew has to deal with these hundreds of refugees on board who are now pissed off because they're all criminals now. They have to find a new home for them somehow.
3: (small sized plot) The crew meets a space version of the Westboro Baptist Church and has to decide wether having them as a somewhat powerful ally is worth them being hate filled pissants all over the station.
4: (small sized plot) Sandoval does some kind of sexual act in a place with sensitive electronics and causes a large portion of the station to just...fall. off.
5: (small plot) Alchemy array breaks and crew's only way to feed themselves is an alien who tags along by the station, selling them shitty food at high prices. Crew must figure out a way to become self sufficient in food.
6: (small sized plot) Crew captures a Fay'lia and has to make the moral choice wether to torture him/her for information.
7: (ongoing small plot) The Fay'lia are producing a moe-moe magical girl series that is effective propaganda for the empire. The crew has to get together and produce a counter-series that glorifies the resistance.
Keep in mind that small plots can be combined/go on simalteneously.
We definitely want to hear your suggestions here too! If you have an idea, write it down here.

Jun. 29th, 2010 05:16 pmthe_measurersThe next large event will be a visit to a primitive planet, as the crew stops by on their way to Bohr to refresh their supplies of food and water. Those who go down will meet some of the indigenous population. It turns out the Fay'lia have been here but they come on a five year cycle. In that time though, they've introduced some of their technology and tried to establish a bit of their authority, before departing again.
In this mission i'd like to riff off as many Avatar/Dances with Wolves cliches as possible (without crossing over into territory that's offensive to actual indigenous people, especially making the natives alien enough that they're not simply expies for any indigenous culture from earth). This post's for brainstorming! Go ahead and drop ideas in here for it, even if they're still half formed.
Possible elements so far:
-Fay'lia eco/cultural tourists, dressing up in native costumes and incompetently enacting their ways. They're led by one of the more unscrupulous tribesmen/women.
-tension between tribes or species caused by the introduction of Fay'lian tech. Former peace agreements between them are tested by this, and it's the character's jobs to help renegotiate them
-A riff on the Mightey Whitey trope: One crew member is led to believe that they are fulfilling a "chosen one" prophecy among the natives, but it turns out to be an elaborate prank or something
-An encounter with an unscrupulous dealer of indigenous artwork, who's also on his way to Bohr.
-Psuedo-losttech: The natives formerly had quite a bit of technology. The characters believe they lost it in some kind of disaster, but the natives actually chose to abandon it.

Jun. 9th, 2010 05:51 amthe_measurersWe're still playing out the threads, but ICly the mysterious ship expedition is over. Everyone was thrown into quarantine for a few days. Meteo Spiderbeam came down with some kind of sickness, had a brief fever and threw up a couple times but is otherwise fine, besides the wound in the arm. He was tested for antibodies and none were found.
