So, what's the deal with Haruhi? In other words, do you have a favorite theory about why she can do what she can do, or do you just go with 'don't need to explain her'*?

* Disclaimer: I'm still on the official novel and manga translations, so if we ever get anything other than Itsuki, Mikuru and Yuki's somewhat-conflicting theories, I don't know it.

Man, I could write a long essay on this but I'll be brief. Personally, I think Yuki's theory is the closest to fully explaining what Haruhi is able to do.

I base this mostly on the fact that Yuki was able to steal a part of Haruhi's power during the disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya shows she at least partly understands how Haruhi's powers work. Also for that fact the Itsuki and Mikuru seem to largely playing with Kyon, while Yuki at least seems honest with what she says.

As a side note, Yuki is also my favorite character in the series so I may be a bit biased~

Yuki does seem to be the most straightforward with Kyon, though Mikuru at least comes off as somewhat conflicted about her own role in things.

Yuki also seems to be the most directly comfortable with the structure of reality for that matter. Mikuru's powers mostly seem dependent on her bosses back home -- she can time-travel only when needed, and half of that is handled by her older self. Itsuki has some power on his own, but he admits its limited mostly to tricks in closed spaces.

(My inner scientist wonders how much of that is swayed by each of their POVs -- that more mystical humans, technological humans and the Data Overmind all approach the study of the universe in different ways, so have a different framework to attach Haruhi in.)

I love the Haruhi series for having such a complex framework behind the silliness of most of the story. On the subject of Mikuru, however, I believe that she plays up the whole cute and innocent part of her personality to sway Kyon to her cause. Not that there is much to support that series though~.

I think Kyon mentions that at least that he assumes one reason Mikuru was chosen by the faction of time-travelers is as some kind of control on him. Whether it's deliberate on Mikuru's part, or that her bosses just picked their agent most likely to fit a moe stereotype isn't specified.

(Mostly I go with the idea some is genuine, mostly because of the difference between older and younger Mikuru. She also tells Kyon not to get too close to her, so there's at least some... I guess regret of the fact she knows she's meant to get on Kyon's good side as leverage. Of course, I assume she's not as hapless as she appears because, cute or not, she does know what she's doing.)

What inspired you to create Victoria?

Well, I had been wanting to play a character who was somekind of doll at an RP for awhile. But I found simply playing a living doll, ala rozen maiden, was quite boring so I instead focused on shifting the attributes commonly associated with dolls, such as eternal beauty and an idealized form, to a human. The other idea behind her, wanting to become inhuman to escape the pain that goes along with simply living, was just an inversion of the usual "robot who wants to become human" trope.

Also playing a strong role in her creation is the sheer oddness of the doll fetish community, as in wanting to be a doll, which is where things like Victoria's desire to have an owner and her obsession with the artificial come from.
